Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay promotes the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring, responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff. Since 1949, BBBSMB has been reaching out to the highest-risk children, specifically who live in poverty and single-parent households. There are an estimated 70,000 at-risk children between the ages of 7 and 14 in our service area of 155 eastern Massachusetts communities. When children are matched with a Big in our program statistics reveal 46% less likely to start using illegal drugs (70% for children of color), 27% less likely to start drinking alcohol, 52% less likely to skip a day of school and 33% less likely to use violence as a solution.
